This animated video produced for the AdJUST project breaks down one of the EU’s key climate tools: carbon pricing. Putting a price on carbon tips the balance between polluting choices, like a petrol SUV, and cleaner alternatives, such as an electric car, making the climate-friendly option comparatively cheaper as prices adjust.
There are two concrete ways carbon pricing speeds up emissions reductions: consuming less carbon-intensive energy day to day and switching to cleaner cars and heating systems when the time comes to replace them, since doing so helps households and businesses avoid the added cost of the tax. Finally, revenue raised through carbon pricing can be reinvested through subsidies that help consumers afford greener choices, turning a levy on greenhouse gases into a tool that funds the transition it is meant to accelerate.
