Is the social climate fund enough to ensure a just transition?

Webinar with Xaquin Garcia, December 19, 2024, at 15:00 CEST

The EU’s ambitious climate policies, such as the Emissions Trading System 2 (ETS2), are essential for combating climate change. However, their socio-economic impact cannot be overlooked. How do these policies affect households already struggling with energy and transport vulnerability? Is the Social Climate Fund (SCF) sufficient to shield them from disproportionate harm?

Join us for an insightful webinar to explore these pressing questions scheduled for Dec 19, 2024, at 15:00 PM CEST.

Abstract: We explore the socio-economic consequences of ETS2 and the Social Climate Fund (SCF), focusing on its capacity to compensate for households’ welfare losses, particularly from an energy and transport vulnerability perspective. To this end, we use a comprehensive map of energy and transport poverty in the EU to assess whether the SCF will be sufficient to ensure that households identified as energy vulnerable are not disproportionately affected by existing and proposed EU climate measures, such as ETS2.

Let’s shape a future where climate action uplifts everyone.
